Newport er en landsby i Vermillion Township, Vermillion County, i delstaten Indiana i USA.[1][2] Stedet er fylkessete for Vermillion County.[3] Ifølge folketellingen i 2010 hadde stedet 515 innbyggere.[4]

Historie rediger
Et postkontor har vært i drift siden 1820.[5] Newport ble planlagt i 1828.[6] Newport har fått sitt navn etter Newport i Delaware.[7]
Vermillion County tinghus og Vermillion County Jail and Sheriff's Residence er oppført i National Register of Historic Places.[8]
Geografi rediger
Newport befinner seg ved samløpet mellom elvene Little Vermilion og Wabash langs Indiana State Road 63, omtrent midtveis mellom fylkets nordlige og sørlige grense.
Ifølge folketellingen i 2010 er det totale arealet til Newport 2,25 km² og alt er land.[9]
