Carrie Marie Underwood (født 10. mars 1983) er en amerikansk pop-/countrysanger som i 2005 vant den fjerde sesongen av American Idol. Hun har siden blitt en multi-platina-selgende[klargjør] artist, og mottatt flere Grammy Awards og er nominert til Golden Globe for sangen «There’s A Place For Us» fra filmmusikken til filmen Legenden om Narnia - Reisen til det ytterste hav.

Bakgrunn rediger
Underwood er barn av Stephen og Carole Underwood i Muskogee i Oklahoma. Hun vokste opp på en gård i Checotah, Oklahoma. Hun har to eldre søstre, Shanna Underwood Means (født 1970) og Stephanie Underwood Shelton (født 1973), som begge er barneskolelærere i Oklahoma. Carrie gikk ut av Checotah High School i 2001 og gikk deretter på Northeastern State University i Tahlequah. Hun gikk ut med bachelorgrad i massekommunikasjon. Hun deltok i flere skjønnhetskonkurranser og fikk andreplassen som Miss NSU i 2004.
American Idol rediger
Sommeren 2004 prøvesang Underwood for American Idol i St. Louis. 22. mars 2005 sang hun åttitalls-hiten «Alone» av Heart, og dommer Simon Cowell spådde at hun ville vinne konkurransen og selge flere plater enn tidligere vinnere av American Idol. Underwood kom aldri blant de siste tre som fikk minst stemmer, og 25. mai 2005 vant hun den fjerde sesongen av American Idol.
Privatliv rediger
Underwood har vært vegetarianer siden hun var 13 år gammel, og har blitt kåret til «World's Sexiest Vegetarian» (verdens mest sexy vegetarianer) i 2005 og 2007 av PETA. Hun har flere ganger gjort arbeid for dyrerettighetsorganisasjoner.
Hun er interessert i sport, og har fremført den amerikanske nasjonalsangen «The Star-Spangled Banner» ved flere[hvilke?] tilfeller på sportsarrangementer.
Underwood har vært sammen med fotballspilleren Tony Romo, Gossip Girl-skuespilleren Chace Crawford og The Bachelor-kjendisen Travis Stork. Hun giftet seg 10. juli 2010 i Georgia med ishockeyspilleren Mike Fisher (f. 1980). Faith Hill og Tim McGraw var blant gjestene. Bilderettighetene ble solgt til tidsskriftet People. Både Underwood og Fisher er kristne.
Albumutgivelser rediger
Hennes debutalbum Some Hearts har solgt til sju platinaplater og er den raskest selgende country & western-debutalbum i Nielsen SoundScan-historien. Oppfølgeralbumet Carnival Ride ble solgt i tre millioner eksemplarer, og det tredje albumet Play On, ble solgt i en million eksemplarer på de første fem månedene.
