Maceo Parker
amerikansk saksofonist
Maceo Parker (født 14. februar 1943) er en amerikansk jazz-, funk- og soul-saksofonist mest kjent for sitt arbeid med James Brown på 60-tallet og som medlem av Parliament-Funkadelic på 70-tallet. Parker var solist på mange av Browns suksessalbum, og var en av nøkkelpersonene i bandet.

Biografi rediger
Parker ble født i Kinston, North Carolina. Hans far spilte piano og trommer (begge foreldrene sang og spilte i kirken). Hans bror, Melvin, spilte trommer mens en annen bror, Kellis spilte trombone.[3]
Maceo og Melvin sluttet seg til James Brown i 1964. I sin bok forteller Brown at han først kun ville ha Melvin som trommeslager, men gikk med på å ta med Maceo som en del av avtalen.[4] Maceo, broren og noen få andre i bandet sluttet etter en tid for å opprette bandet Maceo & All the King's Men.
I 1974 returnerte Parker til James Brown. I 1975 forlot han og Fred Wesley igjen Brown for å være med i George Clintons band Parliament-Funkadelic. Men i årene 1984-1988 var igjen Parker med James Brown.
På 90-tallet startet Parker sin solokarriere som han fremdeles holder på med. Han har gitt ut 10 soloalbum og spiller rundt 100-150 turnekonserter hvert år.
