Bishop Auckland
Bishop Auckland er en markedsby og verdslig sogn i grevskapet Durham i England. Den er lokalisert 19 km nordvest for Darlington og 19 km sørvest for Durham ved sammenløpet av elven Wear med dens sideelv Gaunless. Nærmeste naboer er byen West Auckland og landsbyen Escomb. I henhold til folketellingen i 2001 hadde Bishop Auckland en befolkning på 24 392, kontrollregnet til 16 296 for folketellingen i 2011.[1]

Mye av byens eldste historie handler om biskopene av Durham og etableringen av en jakthytte som siden ble utbygget til å bli Auckland Castle, hovedresidensen til biskopene i Durham.[2][3] Byen er også kjent rådhuset som er en fredet bygning (Grade I listed). Slottet ble reist i 1183, og ombygget på 1300-tallet av biskop Anthony Bek, som likte seg bedre der enn i Durham på grunn av nærheten til godt jaktterreng.
Elven Wear renner under slottet og gjennom slottsparken, mens dens sideelv Gaunless renner gjennom selve byen.
