Swaythling er en bydel og forstad til Southampton. Stedet nevnes i kilder fra 909 e.Kr (Swæthelinge)[1]. Det er nå inkorporert i Southampton og har et stort innslag av studenter på grunn av sin nærhet til University of Southamptons hovedcampus.

Etter at han kom til sitt eksil i Storbritannia i 1852 leide den avsatte argentinske diktator Juan Manuel de Rosas Burgess Street Farm i Swaythling, og bodde der til sin død i 1877.[2][3] Folk i nabolaget utviklet sansen for den argentinske drikken mate som en følge av dette.[3]
