Use of the "badges, identification cards, or other insignias" (or their imitation or likeness) designed by US Federal departments or agencies for the use of their officers or employees or the "insignia or uniform" used as an indicium of the authority of a public employee of a US Federal, State, or local government is, except as authorized, subject to prosecution under 18 U.S.C § 701 and § 716 respectively. Certain use of specific US Federal names, initials, or emblems, related to departments, agencies, bureaus, or instrumentalities of the United States is subject to prosecution under 18 U.S.C. § 709 and § 712. Certain use of US Federal seals is subject to prosecution under 18 U.S.C. § 506 and § 1017.
