The factual accuracy of this map or the file name is disputed.
Reason: Packed with fallacies. For a start; Daghestan, Central-Eastern Georgia, Circassia, Armenia, and the present-day Azerbaijan Republic were not under Ottoman control. It seems the creator of the map has completely misintepreted and misunderstood this source. Even though this historic map only states that the areas shaded in violet in the Caucasus were "gained" by the Russians during the reign of Tsar Alexander II (à l'avenèment d'Alexandre II, 1855, see legend), the uploader of this Commons map went ahead to label all of it as "originally Ottoman possessions". Many of the areas in the Caucasus shaded in violet on the historic map were taken by the Russians from Iran (Central-Eastern Georgia, Armenia, Daghestan, Azerbaijan Republic), not from the Ottomans. Circassia and Kabarda were independent areas, i.e. they were never "part" of the Ottoman Empire; they came under Russian jurisdiction, which the Ottomans just were forced to recognize. In short: most areas in the Caucasus on this Commons map, are erroneously shaded.
This SVG image contains embedded raster graphics.[1] Such images are liable to produce inferior results when scaled to different sizes (as well as possibly being very inefficient in file size). If appropriate to do so, they should be replaced with images created using vector graphics. Note: This template is only supposed to be used if the SVG file mixes vector and raster graphics. If the SVG file only contains raster graphics {{FakeSVG}} is supposed to be used. See also {{TopoSVG}}.
