Dalam meningkatkan status kesehatan masyarakat tidak hanya dilakukan oleh pemerintah, tenaga kesehatan, atau kementerian/lembaga lain, pesantren pun memiliki peran dalam hal itu. Pesantren sehat menjadi salah satu upaya dalam mengkampanyekan kepada masyarakat pesantren agar hidup sehat.

Menteri Kesehatan RI Nila Moeloek mengatakan pesantren sehat adalah pesantren yang melakukan upaya pemberdayaan masyarakat melalui peningkatan kemampuan masyarakat pesantren secara terus menerus tentang kesehatan. Harapannya, masyarakat pesantren mampu mandiri dan berperan aktif dalam mencegah penyakit, memelihara lingkungan sehat, mewujudkan kebijakan berwawasan kesehatan untuk meningkatkan derajat kesehatan yang optimal.

“Tujuan dari pesantren sehat adalah untuk mewujudkan masyarakat pesantren dapat mandiri dan berperan aktif dalam meningkatkan status kesehatannya,” kata Menkes, pada Seminar Nasional Peran Pesantren dalam Pembangunan Kesehatan, Sabtu (9/3).

Improving public health status is not only done by the government, health workers, or other ministries / institutions, pesantren also have a role in this. Healthy boarding school is one of the efforts in campaigning to boarding schools to live healthy.

The Indonesian Minister of Health Nila Moeloek said that healthy pesantren are pesantren that carry out community empowerment efforts through continuous improvement of the pesantren community's ability regarding health. It is hoped that the pesantren community will be able to be independent and play an active role in preventing disease, maintaining a healthy environment, creating health-oriented policies to improve optimal health status.

"The purpose of healthy boarding schools is to realize that pesantren communities can be independent and play an active role in improving their health status," said the Minister of Health, at the National Seminar on the Role of Pesantren in Health Development, Saturday (9/3).
