English: One of the earliest natural history books about China, by the Polish Jesuit Michael Boym. (Obviously includes some non-Chinese {and non-floral} species). This page, unusually, shows a squirrel (松鼠, Songshu; Sum Xu in Boym's transcription) chasing a green-haired turtle (綠毛龜, Lü mao gui).
Boym said that Chinese domesticate Sum Xu, put silver collars on them, and that they hunt mice. Boym (mistakenly) translates 绿毛龟 as green-winged turtles. In the text he says that these rare creatures are green, and sometimes have blue (or dark green? cæruleas) wings attached to their legs; they move very slowly, but can sometimes jump, making use of their wings.Русский: Китайская белка гонится за зеленовласой (в китайском тексте) или зеленокрылой (в латинском) черепахой.
