Brady Haran

Brady John Haran (født 18. juni 1976) er en australsk uavhengig filmskaper og videojournalist. Han er mest kjent for sine videoer på nettstedet YouTube og sine dokumentarfilmer for BBC News.[7][8]

Karriere rediger

Haran studerte journalisme i et år før han ble ansatt hos The Adelaide Advertiser. I 2002 flyttet han fra Australia til Nottingham i England. I Nottingham jobbet han for BBC og begynte å arbeide med film, han lagde rapporter for East Midlands Today, BBC News Online og noen av BBCs radiostasjoner.[9][10][11]

I 2007 jobbet Haran som en filmskaper for Nottingham Science City,[9][12] som en del av en avtale mellom BBC og University of Nottingham.[13] «Test Tube»-prosjektet hans startet med ideen hans om å lage en dokumentar om diverse vitenskapsmenn og deres forskning, men han bestemte seg for å laste opp mye av arbeidet på YouTube; ut av dette kom Youtube-kanalene hans «Periodic Videos» og «Sixty Symbols».[9][12] Haran forlot da BBC for å arbeide med Youtube-videoer.[14]

Etter at han lagde sin første Youtube-kanal, «Test Tube», bestemte han seg for å lage flere.[9] I løpet av sine første fem år på Youtube lagde han over 1500 videoer.[14] I 2012 var han produsent, regissør, og intervjuer bak tolv Youtube-kanaler,[14] blant annet «The Periodic Table of Videos»,[15] «Sixty Symbols» og «Numberphile».[9] Harans «The Periodic Table of Videos» Youtube-kanal, sammen med professor Sir Martyn Poliakoff, fikk Royal Society of Chemistry Nyholm Prize for Education i 2011.[16][17][18]

Sammen med Professor Poliakoff har Harans videoer som forklarer kjemi og vitenskap for vanlige folk fått positiv mottagelse.[7] Sammen så har de laget over 500 videoer som går over alle grunnstoffene og andre kjemirelaterte temaer. I september 2015 hadde Youtube-kanalen deres mer enn 100 millioner visninger.[19] Videoen Gold Bullion Vault, som viste innsiden av hvelvet i Bank of England, ble sluppet ut 7. desember 2012 og fikk over to millioner treff iløped av de to første månedene den ble sluppet ut.[20][21] Haran og Poliakoff har også forfattet en artikkel i Nature Chemistry[22] og en essay i Science[23] som diskuterte innvirkningen fra «The Periodic Table of Videos»-videoene.
