Sommer-OL 1964 ble arrangert i Tokyo i Japan fra 10. til 24. oktober 1964. Dette var første gangen olympiske leker ble arrangert i Asia.

USA vant flest gullmedaljer med 36, mens Sovjetunionen vant flest medaljer totalt med 96. Ingen av de tjuefire norske utøverne vant medaljer. De deltok i seks grener, fordelt på fire kvinner og tjue menn.

Dette var også første gang olympiske leker ble vist på farge-fjernsyn. Flere av konkurransene ble også filmet av den japanske filmskaperen Kon Ichikawa for dokumentarfilmen Tokio-olympiaden.

Tokyo ble valgt ved avstemning under den internasjonale olympiske komités 56. sesjon i München i Vest-Tyskland 26. mai 1959.[2][3]
