Anoraknophobia

Anoraknophobia er det tolvte studioalbumet til det britiske progressiv rock-bandet Marillion. Albumet ble utgitt i mai 2001, og ble spilt inn i Marillions eget studio The Racket Club i Aylesbury.

Det ble utgitt en singel fra albumet, men den ble bare solgt fra gruppas nettside. Fans fikk to singler for prisen av en, slik at de kunne sende en singel til lokale radiostasjoner. Albumet nådde ikke inn blant Top 40 på den britiske albumlista.[1]

Anoraknophobia ble forhåndssolgt fra Marillions nettside lenge før albumet var ferdig. Til sammen ble 12 674 eksemplarer av albumet forhåndssolgt. Alle som forhåndsbestilte albumet fikk en spesialversjon av albumet med en bonus-CD med ekstramateriale. Dessuten fikk alle som forhåndsbestilte innen en viss frist, navnet sitt trykket i omslaget på spesialversjonen av albumet. Bare 1CD-versjonen ble solgt i vanlige butikker.

Et konsertalbum med blant annet alle sangene fra Anoraknophobia, Anorak in the UK, ble utgitt i 2002, både som enkelt-CD og dobbelt-CD. En stund etter utgivelsen av Anoraknophobia holdt Marillion en konkurranse der fansen ble invitert til å remikse sanger fra albumet. Remixomatosis, et album med vinnerbidragene i konkurransen, ble utgitt i 2004. I 2006 ga Marillion ut en dobbelt-CD med demo-materiale fra innspillingen av Anoraknophobia, kalt Unzipped.

Tittelen rediger

Albumtittelen spiller på klesplagget anorakk, som har vært mye brukt av trainspottere. Aktiviteten og klesplagget blir gjerne sett på av mange som ukule, slik også Marillion og deres fans ofte har blitt sett på av musikkritikere.

 It occurred to me about a year ago watching "Never Mind The Buzzcocks," or something like that, that we're starting to live in a 'take the piss' culture, and that having a cheap shot or ripping the piss out of somebody has become a national sport in this country, and all the easy targets are people who believe in something and have a passion. Our fans are the easiest people in the world to point the finger at and call anoraks, and the thing about these guys that are sitting there - the Mark Lamarrs and the Angus Deaytons of the world - whether you love or hate them, is that they never actually stand up and declare what they believe in themselves, because if they were to do that, then everybody else would point and laugh at them.

So really to declare a passion is to expose yourself to ridicule, and I personally would much rather have a world full of people that were passionate and believed in something and cared about something, than a load of two-dimensional types who stood around smirking and pointing at other people. I really just wanted to say, "We know you're all anoraks, and there's nothing wrong with it! We're anoraks too!"

The point of the title "Anoraknophobia" was no fear of it. Anorak no phobia.
