The Andrews Sisters

The Andrews Sisters var en amerikansk «close harmony» sanggruppe bestående av søstrene LaVerne Andrews (contralto; født 6. juli 1911, død 8. mai 1967), Maxene Anglyn Andrews (high harmony; født 3. januar 1916, død 21. oktober 1995) og Patty (Patti) Andrews (hovedstemme; født 16. februar 1918, død 30. januar 2013[1]). Alle tre var født i Minnesota. Faren var innvandrer fra Hellas og moren var norsk-amerikaner.

The Andrews Sisters

De startet sin karriere som imitatorer av en annen fremgangsrik sanggruppe, The Boswell Sisters. Etter å ha sunget med forskjellige danseband og reist rundt på vaudeville, fikk de et nasjonalt gjennombrudd med sine plateutgivelser og radioopptredener i 1937. Deres musikk underholdt allierte styrker under annen verdenskrig. De solgte «war bonds», opptrådte i flere filmer (blant annet noen Abbott and Costello-filmer) og opptrådte for soldater som tjenestegjorde utenlands. Deres første film med Abbott and Costello, førkrigskomedien Buck Privates, introduserte deres best kjente plateinnspilling, Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy.

De spilte også inn mange sanger med Bing Crosby, blant dem mange av hans juleslagere, som Jingle Bells. Det ble oppdaget etter krigen at deres musikk også ble smuglet inn til Tyskland (kamuflert med nye etiketter som f.eks. «Hitlers yndlingsmarsjer»).

Etter et kort opphold etter krigen fortsatte søstene, og opptrådte i klubber i USA og Europa. De sluttet som gruppe i 1953, og da valgte Patty å fortsette solo. Deres siste opptreden sammen var i 1966The Dean Martin Show.
