Richard John Neuhaus
Richard John Neuhaus (født 14. mai 1936 i Pembroke i Ontario i Canada, død 8. januar 2009) var en fremtredende amerikansk geistlig (først luthersk pastor, senere katolsk prest) og forfatter.

Richard John Neuhaus var en av åtte barn i av en luthersk prestefamilie i Canada. Han flyttet fra fødelandet Canada til USA og ble amerikansk statsborger.
Luthersk prest rediger
I 1960 ble han selv ordinert til luthersk prest innen Missourisynoden (LCMS, Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod).[5] Som luthersk prest var han aktiv i liberal politikk inntil høyesterettighetskjennelsen i saken Roe v. Wade ble lagt frem. I 1974 fant det sted et større skisma i Missouri Synod som innebar at mange «modernistiske» kirker brøt ut for å danne den mer progressive Association of Evangelical Lutheran Churches, som Neuhaus sluttet seg til. AELC slo seg et tiår etter i 1988 sammen med to mer liberale lutherske kirker i USA, The American Lutheran Church og Lutheran Church in America og ble til Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. Her var også Neuhaus med.
Han var opphavsmann til det som noen kalte «Neuhaus's Law», som sier at «Der ortodoksi er valgfritt, vil ortodoksi før eller siden bli forbudt.»
Katolsk prest rediger
Han konverterte og ble vigslet til katolsk prest av kardinal John Joseph O'Connor i New York i 1990. Han var grunnlegger og redaktør av månedstidsskriftet First Things og frtfatter av en rekke bøker, som The Naked Public Square: Religion and Democracy in America (1984), The Catholic Moment: The Paradox of the Church in the Postmodern World (1987), og Catholic Matters: Confusion, Controversy, and the Splendor of Truth (2006).
Han fremmet økumenisk dialog og sosial konservatisme. Sammen med Charles Colson redigerte han Evangelicals and Catholics Together: Toward a Common Mission.
